What Is a 700 Reeds Machine-Made Carpet and Why Should You Choose It?
Among the various types of machine-made carpets available in the market, 700 reeds carpets remain one of the most popular options for buyers seeking durability, comfort, and affordability. But what exactly is a 700 reeds carpet?
The term “reeds” refers to the number of knots (or tufts of pile yarn) per meter across the width of the carpet. A 700 reeds carpet contains 700 knots per meter in width, meaning the design is fairly detailed, yet not too compressed. This makes it a perfect balance between aesthetics, durability, and comfort.
In addition to reeds, machine-made carpets are also classified by density, or what is technically called pile density. This refers to the number of rows of yarn in the length of the carpet. The most common pile densities for 700 reeds carpets are 2100 and 2550. At Toos Mashhad, all our 700 reeds carpets are woven with a high density of 2550, ensuring a much richer and longer-lasting structure.
Why Is 700 Reeds a Smart Choice?
While higher reed carpets such as 1200 or 1500 may offer more intricate designs, they often sacrifice comfort and thickness. In contrast, 700 reeds carpets are known for their greater pile height, making them softer, warmer, and more pleasant for daily use.
Especially in homes with children or elderly residents, the thicker and softer nature of 700 reeds carpets offers better insulation, more cushioning, and improved resistance to wear and tear. These carpets are ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and spaces where people spend a lot of time on the floor.
What Makes Toos Mashhad’s 700 Reeds Carpets Different?
1. Premium Acrylic Yarn from Turkey (AKSA Brand)
Unlike many manufacturers who use cheap polyester or BCF yarns, Toos Mashhad carpets are made from 100% heat-set acrylic yarn imported from the prestigious AKSA brand in Turkey. Acrylic is known for its resilience, softness, vibrant colors, non-shedding performance, and ability to retain shape for many years, even under heavy traffic.
2. 100% Cotton Weft (Three-Layered)
The structure of a carpet greatly depends on its weft yarns. While many factories use polyester, blended cotton-polyester, or even jute to reduce costs, Toos Mashhad insists on using pure ring-spun cotton in all three weft layers. Cotton is natural, breathable, hypoallergenic, and absorbs moisture better—resulting in a healthier, more stable carpet over time.
3. Real Thickness and Weight
Our carpets are designed to be genuinely thick and heavy. Each 12-meter carpet weighs over 40 kilograms, which equals more than 3.3 kg per square meter. Most competitors produce lighter carpets in the 30–36 kg range. The pile height in our 700 reeds carpets is over 10 mm, while many other producers only reach 7–8 mm in practice—even if they claim 10 mm in ads.
4. Made on Vandewiele HCP Machine (Belgium)
Toos Mashhad carpets are woven using advanced Vandewiele HCP looms from Belgium. This is a significant quality differentiator. Compared to other machines like Schonherr, TEXIMA, or CRX, Vandewiele looms produce more tightly woven carpets with extremely strong backing. For example, if a cat scratches a 700 reeds carpet made on a Texima loom, yarns may easily get pulled out. In contrast, the same action on a Vandewiele-made carpet leaves the pile completely intact.
5. No High-Bulk or Embossed Weaving
Our carpets do not use high-bulk (Hi-Bulk) or “embossed” weaving techniques, which artificially reduce pile thickness to create visual texture. These techniques may look attractive but often compromise softness, reduce real pile height, and make vacuuming more difficult. Our carpets are designed for long-term satisfaction—not just first impressions.
Design Variety and Cultural Richness
Toos Mashhad offers a diverse range of designs suitable for all tastes and interior styles. From classic Persian and tribal patterns to modern, vintage, and minimalistic themes, our design catalog is continuously updated to meet global trends.
Whether you're looking for a traditional red medallion pattern, a soft-toned modern rug, or a minimalist carpet for a contemporary space, our 700 reeds carpets offer both style and substance.
